In this typical and distinguished region of Portugal you will find and learn about the medieval borough of Óbidos, a true jewel of Portugal’s history, culture and tourism. The splendid Vila de Óbidos depicted by its big walls and recovered castle will offer you an opportunity to pierce through history. Enjoying a peaceful and secluded medieval atmosphere that offers a relaxing intimacy away from the big centre’s frenzy is a challenge to our romantic imaginary. Óbidos is a small town and museum which prides itself of its Very Noble and Always Loyal titles. The town was conquered to the Moors for Christianity in 1148 by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso de Henriques. Latter, it was a wedding gift from D. Dinis to his wife Queen Sta Isabel, a royal tradition that was maintained until 1834 justifying the designation of “House of Queens” attributed to Óbidos and whose origins are lost in time.50 minutes away from Lisbon and with excellent access, Óbidos is located in the centre of the country, by the coast and surrounded by its great walls and proud castle. It is a privileged place, a true fascination with meaningful importance in Portugal’s history where you can find the pleasure of authenticity and which invites you to enjoy its charm in a visit you will never forget.
